Manju Warrier, the actor and producer who predominantly works in the Malayalam industry, has joined the cast of actor Ajith Kumar’s upcoming untitled Tamil film, tentatively called AK61.
Putting speculation to rest in this regard, Warrier recently confirmed her involvement in the project. Addressing the media on the sidelines of an event organised by an educational institution, the actor said, “I thought it sounded like a good project. I believe even they (makers) thought it would be good to have me in the film. I can’t reveal anything more.”
Directed by filmmaker H Vinoth, AK61 is produced by Boney Kapoor under his Bayview Projects banner in association with Zee Studios. The film marks the third collaboration of the actor, director and producer trio after Nerkonda Paarvai and Valimai.
Before the release of Valimai, in September 2021, Kapoor had confirmed that he would once again collaborate with the actor and filmmaker. The producer made the revelation about the new project when he was asked what gave him confidence in the then three-film-old director. He had said, “His [Vinoth’s] work will talk. He believes in expressing himself through his films. It was Ajith who sent Vinoth to my Mumbai residence to narrate some film ideas a few years back. I remember my wife [the late actor Sridevi] conversing with him in Tamil, and being impressed with his storylines. His vision was clear, and ours has been a happy journey. In fact, my next film will also be with Ajith and Vinoth.”
AK61 is said to be action-adventure. The film’s shooting commenced on April 11.

This will mark Warrier’s second Tamil film; she made her debut in the language with 2019’s Asuran. Besides AK61, the actor has several projects in the pipeline, including Jack n Jill, Meri Awaz Suno, Ayisha and Amriki Pandit. She was last seen in Lalitham Sundram.
Meanwhile, Ajith has already signed his 62nd film. Tentatively referred to as AK62, it will be directed by filmmaker Vignesh Shivan and produced by Subaskaran of Lyca Productions. The film will have music by Anirudh Ravichander, a frequent collaborator of the director. The shooting of AK62 is slated to commence by the end of 2022 and it is expected to release in mid-2023.
