Actress Poornima Bhagyaraj has joined the Vaaimai team. The film has her son Shanthanu in the lead and is said to be based on the story of Perarivalan – the Rajiv Gandhi murder convict. But director A Senthil Kumar – a former associate of Vasanthabalan – insists that Vaaimai is not a biopic on Perarivalan. “Certain parts of the story are inspired by their lives, but it is in no way a biopic,” he says.
Poornima will play Shanthanu’s mother in the film. Actress Bhanu of Thamirabharani fame is the female lead while Prithvi Pandiarajan and Manoj K Bharathi play crucial roles. Comedian Goundamani is also a part of this project.
