Un Samayal Araiyil was a remake of Salt N Pepper, a 2011 Malayalam hit film. The film starred Prakash Raj and Sneha in the lead roles, with Ilaiyaraaja composing the music. Un Samayal Araiyil, and its Telugu version, Ulavacharu Biriyani, received lukewarm response from the audience. However, Oggarane, the Kannada version, became the runaway success of the year.

Reports also suggest that Prakash Raj will not be reprising his role in the film, but plans to rope in Nana Patekar for the same.

Prakash Raj is currently acting in Thoongavanam and will also be seen in the Rajini-Ranjith untitled film, and the Tamil remake of Jolly LLB.
