Actress Lakshmi Manchu hosted a special screening of filmmaker Pan Nalin’s critically-acclaimed film Angry Indian Goddesses in Hyderabad last week. The film, promoted as India’s first female buddy movie, is scheduled to release on December 4.” Angry Indian Goddesses is a poignant movie that left me speechless. It is such an important film in today’s times. It’s a must watch. All my friends loved the movie and thanked me for inviting them. A fun-filled hard-hitting movie,” Lakshmi told Silverscreen.in. The screening was followed by an extended discussion between Lakshmi Manchu and members of the film’s team, including director Pan Nalin, producer Gaurav Dhingra, and cast members Sarah Jane Dias, Sandhya Mridul, Anushka Manchanda, and Rajshri Deshpande.

The film’s trailer depicts seven protagonists expressing a range of emotions and behaviours, usually deemed taboo for women on screen in Indian cinema. In one humorous sequence, a scene is being shot where the actress is told that she hasn’t been hired for her acting talents, but her body and looks. Her comic response sets the tone for a film that humorously and engagingly challenges a host of everyday hostilities directed at women. Angry Indian Goddesses looks set to join a wave of woman-centric films like Queen, Saat Khoon Maaf, and the recently released Inji Iduppazhagi, in creating positive screen space for Indian women. The film was screened at the recent Jio MAMI Film Festival in Mumbai.
