Rustom Trailer Released

RedditWhatsapp

The trailer of Akshay Kumar starrer Rustom opens with a sepia-toned background with the words “Inspired by true incidents” emblazoned on the screen, piquing our interest.

The film is based on the 1959 Indian court case about Commander Cawas Maneckshaw Nanavati’s shooting of his wife’s lover, Prem Ahuja. Nanavati had fought his own case which was known as KM Nanavati vs. State of Maharashtra. The case was also a milestone in the Indian legal history as trial by jury was abolished following the case. The film depicts the trial of Rustom Parvi, a naval commander, who finds his wife (played by Illeana D’Cruz) cheating on him. Overcome by rage, Rustom fires three shots at her lover and kills him.

The trailer offers glimpses of how those three shots ‘shook the nation’; of the support that poured in for the ‘patriot’ Rustom, and the heated exchanges between him and the victim’s sister played by Esha Gupta.

Marking the debut of director Tinu Suresh Desai, the film’s trailer gives off a familiar feel considering the producer Neeraj Pandey and actor Akshay Kumar have collaborated again after two other crime-thrillers: Special 26 (2013) and Baby (2015).

With a titillating background score, a story from of a ‘glamorous’ scandal, Akshay Kumar looking smart in a uniform and a pencil moustache, the film looks promising.

It will be released on 12, August.
