Miffed By Lack Of Joker Scenes, Reddit User To File Lawsuit Against Suicide Squad Makers For ‘False Advertising’

A Reddit user named ‘BlackPanther2016’ has threatened to file a lawsuit against the makers of Suicide Squad, DC Comics, and Warner Bros. for false advertising, particularly regarding the Joker’s scenes. In a long post on the networking site’s Movie subreddit, the superhero fan said he will file a lawsuit on 11 August with his lawyer brother representing his case.

The user explained that he drove 300 miles to London to watch the film only to be left disappointed, claiming that most of the Joker’s scenes were the same from the trailers. “These scenes were advertised several times in the first trailer and many TV ads but they didn’t show it to me in the movie. I wasted a lot of money paying and travelling to go watch this movie because of these specific scenes they had advertised to me and all of us saying, ‘Hey, check out our preview! This will all be in our movie, come watch it on the 5th!’ All lies” wrote the user.

The user claimed to have asked for a refund from the theatre, only to have him kicked out of the premises. “They laughed at me and kicked me out. So I’m now taking this to court. I want my refund, the trauma of being embarrassed as I was being kicked out and people laughing at me for wanting my refund, and also the 160 pounds of fuel money I used to drive to London from Scotland,” he added.

Recently, Jared Leto who plays the Joker in the film, spoke of how his scenes were liberally cut off, confessing that the deleted scenes were enough to make an entire film. The actor, known for his method acting, put in a tremendous effort for his roles including sending live rats and anal beads to co-stars, interacting with psychopathic killers, and practicing the Joker’s laugh on unsuspecting civilians. “There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start. I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film,” he told IGN.

Meanwhile, Suicide Squad has beaten other films at the box-office, including Jason Bourne and Star Trek Beyond, earning $267,105,000 worldwide. The film has received mostly negative reviews and has caused a user petitioning to shut down movie review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes last week.

The Reddit user, so far, has likened himself to being a crusader for all those who fell for Suicide Squad‘s advertising scheme, and has launched an online petition against Warner Bros in a bid to make ‘cinema better for everyone’. The petition has seven signatures so far.
