Nick Gordon Held Liable In Bobbi Kristina Brown Wrongful Death Lawsuit

An Atlantic area judge has reportedly ruled Nick Gordon, boyfriend of Whitney Houston’s deceased daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, legally responsible for the 22-year-old’s death. The judge added that the verdict was in favor of Brown’s estate in the culmination of a wrongful-death lawsuit filed last year. Nick Gordon was accused of assault, theft, and fraud after a “cocaine and drinking binge”.

Gordon failed to show up to a civil hearing at the Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta on Friday. This is the second hearing he had missed. As a result, Gordon was found in contempt of the order and the judgment was made “by default”.

Bobbi Kristina Brown was the only daughter of late singer Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. When Houston died in February 2012, Brown was named as the sole beneficiary of her mother’s estate. On October that year, Brown had caused a stir within both of her parents’ families when she announced her engagement to Nick Gordon, a man she had previously referred to as her “big brother”. On 31 January last year, she was found unconscious in her bathtub. She remained in a coma until her death in July last year.

Brown’s autopsy report stated that cannabis and alcohol were found in her body, along with a prescription medication used for anxiety. The report cited the “underlying cause” of death as “immersion associated with drug intoxication”. However, the manner of death could not be deduced. The summary statement of the autopsy read, “Death was clearly not due to natural causes, but the medical examiner has not been able to determine whether death was due to intentional or accidental causes, and has therefore classified the manner of death as undetermined.”

Thus far, the CNN reports that Nick Gordon had no comments to offer regarding the court’s ruling. No criminal charges have been filed against Gordon.
