Film maker Rakesh Roshan has announced that Krrish 4‘s release date will be moved from the proposed Christmas 2018 slot, as the Roshans do not want the film to clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s next film, directed by Anand L Rai.
The 67-year-old producer director said that he got to know about the release date of SRK’s movie via social media. “If Shah Rukh is releasing his film on that day, I will shift (the release date). It is unethical for me to come on the date he has already announced for his movie,” Roshan said in a statement.
Explaining the shift of release, Hrithik Roshan said “My mom and dad have always taught me that doing the right thing is over and above any profit or loss. I guess dad felt it was wrong to usurp a date that another colleague has already announced.”
Big budget films releasing on the same day can eat into the opening of both films, and Hrithik Roshan was a victim of this when his film Mohenjo Daro and Akshay Kumar’s Rustom released on the same day this year. But interestingly, SRK’s Raees is scheduled to release on January 26 next year, the same Friday as Hrithik’s home production Kaabil releases. The Roshans had made the date announcement long before Raees release date ws announced.
“I can’t judge other people’s ethics. I must travel my own path, guided by my values and allow others to travel theirs,” said Rosshan in a press statement, while admitting that releasing Raees and Kaabil together would damage both the films. “Both films will suffer a little. But both can also do well enough if the content is good. If it’s in your destiny to succeed, nobody can take it away. Likewise, failure.”
