Vijay Sethupathi’s Mellisai Becomes Puriyadha Puthir

Vijay Sethupathi’s long-delayed film, Mellisai has gone through a title change. The Ranjit Jeyakodi directorial is now titled Puriyadha Puthir. The distribution rights for the film produced by Rebel Studio has now been bagged by J Satish Kumar under the banner JSK Film Corporation. A press release stated that due to the ‘high voltage content’ the team opted for the new title. The title was acquired from KS Ravikumar who made a film of the same name in 1990.

“I fell in awe once I saw the movie. It had all the necessary commercial ingredients to be parked along with the best of commercial films. We were apprehensive about the title Mellisai since we felt it was too soft. We wanted the title to be ‘Dynamic’ because of the high voltage script. Moreover, for a powerful star like Vijay Sethupathi, a ‘melodic’ title will not be a choice at this point of his career. We felt Puriyadha Puthir would be apt for this script and reached out to RB Choudary of  Super Good Films and he was magnanimous in giving [us] the title. The title has brought this film good fortune and we are planning to release this film in November. This will be Vijay Sethupathi’s seventh release this year and coincidentally, his fifth film for my company. We are very confident of a hit that will cement his place as the most successful star of the year,” said JSK Sathish in the press statement.

The film’s production began in December 2013, and was completed in mid 2014. At the audio launch of the film, the film’s lead actress Gayathrie said she had not signed any new movies, pinning all her hopes on this one. Directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi, the film has music by Sam CS and cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan.
