Director Saran was arrested on a cheque fraud case in Tirunelveli yesterday. Following a complaint from Gnanasekaran of Sivakasi, who alleged that the cheque (for Rs 50 lakhs) he had received in payment from Saran in 2010 had bounced, the director was led away by the police from the sets of Aayirathil Iruvar.
According to an onlooker, “the movie team was shocked, but to their credit, they managed to follow him to the station and get him out on bail almost immediately.” On his way out of the station, Saran stated that “someone out to tarnish his image had cooked up this false case”.
The film’s representative added that shooting began again when the director joined the sets and the team is working hard to put together the best legal recourse for him.
