Comedian Madurai Muthu has said that he married again for the sake of his family and children. Muthu’s second marriage had been the subject of much speculation. He lost his first wife Lekha in a car accident in February this year. A few months later, he married Neethi, his late wife’s best friend.
In an interview with Vikatan, Muthu talked about the reasons behind the decision. He said, “I have old and ill parents. My father has heart issues; my mother has diabetes. I have two children – daughters, under the age of 10. They need immediate, constant attention. Under the advice of my parents, and close relatives, I agreed to marry again. My late wife, Lekha, lives on in my heart. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about her, but life has to go on.”
He said he felt it was a sound decision, “My daughters have known Neethi for a long time. She is a dentist by training, and was a close friend of the family. After our marriage, she has taken on the care of my family. They’re all flourishing now.”
Initially, when reports surfaced of his remarriage, Muthu had denied it. When contacted about a photo circulating on social media, Muthu had said it was taken for a film. He later said, “I didn’t think people would react in the way they did. News reports of the marriage seemed sleazy. To avoid this, I initially denied reports.”
