SRK Awarded Honorary Doctorate

Fans of Shah Rukh Khan – the King Khan, can now address the Bollywood superstar as Dr Shah Rukh. The distinguished Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad will confer an honorary doctorate to the Raees actor.

The actor will be awarded the honor along with industrialist Sanjiv Saraf who conducts the Jash-E-Rekhta festival that celebrates Urdu poetry every year. President Pranab Mukherjee will honour the two awardees.

The 51-year-old actor will be given the ‘Doctor of Letters’, for his outstanding services in the field of arts and culture. This is in addition to the several doctorates he has received over the years, including the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Edinburgh. 

As could be expected, this has created a stir. Maulana Mufti Mohammed Nadeemuddin Siddiqui, spokesperson of the All India Association of Imams of Masjid, has condemned the university’s decision in conferring the title to someone from the film industry.
