Arya and Jayam Ravi will allot one and a half years’ worth of their time for Sangamithra. The film is a period drama on the lines of Baahubali, and has the distinction of being the 100th film produced by Thenandal Films.
According to the film’s producer, Murali Ramanarayanan of Thenandal Films, “After Baahubali, we now have the confidence that given a well-made, well-packaged movie, the audience will lap it up. Though Sangamithra is a fictionalised historical drama, it still has contemporary issues which people can connect with.”

The team has initiated talks with two leading heroines with pan-Indian appeal. “The titular role of Sangamithra is extremely important and we need someone who is a performer, apart from being extremely good-looking.”
Sabu Cyril is in the process of designing massive sets for the film that has a lot of underwater action sequences. For this, the team hopes to travel abroad. “We needed water-based studios which are available in America and China only,” he says.
Lyricist Vairamuthu will write the songs, while AR Rahman will set them to music. The project is currently in pre-production.
