Kamal Haasan: “If Jallikattu is Banned, Then Why Not Biriyani?”

Kamal Haasan Bigg Boss

The traditional Tamil sport of Jallikattu has spawned heated debates and discussions everywhere. Celebrities have been criticised for having an opinion on the sport, and for not having one. Actor Kamal Hassan, who is an ardent fan of the bull fighting sport, said all those who hate it, should give up on biriyani too. As per a report in India Today, the actor spoke at a conclave in Chennai where he said, “If you want a ban on jallikattu, let’s also ban biryani, I’m a big fan of jallikattu.”

The 62-year-old actor also spoke on how he is one of the few actors who have played the sport himself. “Am a proud Tamilian. This is our culture,” he added.

This is not the first time the actor has been outspoken in his support of the sport. He had earlier asked people not to confuse the sport to bull-fighting in Spain. Bulls are treated badly and they die during the event in Spain whereas in Tamil Nadu, the bulls “…are treated like God, like part of the family.”

“It is about taming the bull and not creating physical harm by breaking its horns or other parts,” he had said.

The Supreme Court has dismissed Tamil Nadu state’s plea in seeking a repeal of the 2014 ban of Jallikattu which held the sport as cruelty against animals.
