Actress Varalaxmi apparently walked out of the project due to issues with the film’s producer. When contacted, the actress said:
“I have nothing to say. Whatever is there in the tweet, that is all.”
Meanwhile, the film’s producer Sudev dismissed reports of a fight with Varalaxmi and insisted that the actress had been dropped from the film due to her sudden and drastic weight loss.”We had decided to cast her because we needed someone on chubbier side like her character in Kasaba. However, Varalaxmi has trimmed down considerably, and does not match the character profile now. So, we had to drop her and choose Ineya to play the role instead,” he told ToI.

Sudev also said that they had no idea about Varalaxmi’s weight loss. “We realised that she had lost weight only when she came to the film’s pooja in Kochi a few days ago.”
The film is a remake of Samuthirakani’s Tamil film, Appa. Samuthirakani has been roped in to direct the Malayalam version as well. Jayaram has been cast as the male lead.
