“Joker Needs To Be Remade in Several Languages”: Guru Somasundaram

Guru Somasundaram is excited about Joker’s National Award honour. He told Silverscreen, “I always expected Joker to get an award. But to get two? It was a pleasant surprise. Raju Murugan and the producer SR Prabhu had a lot of faith in the material, and these two men made sure the film got the acclaim it deserved.”

Joker’s message is universal, and needs to be made in as many Indian languages as possible to create change, the actor said. “Toilets are a basic requirement. And they are fulfilled in urban areas. But it is not so in the rural areas. Women, especially, suffer a lot because of this. While we did our bit to help things, I think this film needs to be remade in several others languages to make sure that there is greater awareness.”

The actor’s performance as Mannar Mannan in the film received much acclaim. “A lot of people told me that they were sure I’d get the award. But for me, the response to the film itself was prize enough.”

Reports indicate that the producer, SR Prabhu, might remake the film soon. An official announcement regarding this is expected shortly.
