The Tamil remake of Lucia has been titled Enakkul Oruvan. Producer CV Kumar has acquired the rights to title from K Balachander’s Kavithalyaa Productions, who produced a Kamal Haasan starrer by the same name, in 1984. Starring Siddharth and Deepa Sannidhi in lead roles, the film is the story of an insomniac who is given a miracle drug. As his dependence on the drug increases, his life takes several scary turns. Directed by Pawan Kumar, the Kannada original had the distinction of being the first entirely crowd-funded film. Despite the critical acclaim it received, it was not a hit at the box office.
The official remake rights were bought by Thirukumaran Entertainment in October last year and filming began in February. Prasad Ramar debuts as director with this film and has tweaked the script a little to suit the sensibilities of the local audience. Santhosh Narayanan has composed music .
