Director Amol Palekar has moved the Supreme Court, asking for changes to be made to the Cinematograph Act, and censorship rules. Palekar filed a Public Interest Litigation, in which he argued that pre-censorship rules were irrelevant in this age and time, according to a DNA report.
The SC has issued a notice to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, and has asked them to respond to Palekar’s PIL.
Earlier, the Shyam Benegal Committee had submitted a report in which they made recommendations to amend the Cinematograph Act. The Central Government is yet to respond to the report, and no move has been made to change things as yet.
