Actor Srinivasan, known as Powerstar, has been lodged in Bangalore’s Parpana Agrahara Jail for cheating, and fraud.
According to a report in Maalai Malar, Srinivasan had allegedly cheated a Delhi-based property developer of Rs 10 Lakhs, by promising them he could arrange for a loan at cheaper rates of interest. However, when the deal fell through, Powerstar was charged by the Economic Offenses Wing of the Delhi Police, and summoned to appear in court for trial. However, he had failed to appear in court, and jumped bail. The police therefore formally arrested him, and lodged him in Tihar Jail.
However, Powerstar had also allegedly cheated two Bangalore-based businessmen of a sum of Rs 1 Crore, also on promise of a loan of Rs 30 crore at cheaper interest. TNIE reports that the Bangalore High Grounds Police sought warrant from the Delhi High Court, and took Srinivasan into custody. He was produced in front of the 4th Metropolitan Magistrates Court in Bangalore, and remanded to judicial custody.
A police source says, “He is involved in eight cases of cheating and criminal intimidation that are being investigated in Delhi and the Central Crime Branch in Chennai.”
