Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun’ Sequel To Release In July 2019

The Hollywood movie, Top Gun, will have a sequel 33 years after its original release in 1986, with Tom Cruise in the lead. Paramount Studios will bring out the sequel in July 2019 now. 

According to a report in Variety, director Joseph Kosinski who worked with actor Tom Cruise in the movie Oblivion is said to be the front-runner to direct this sequel. The movie will be bankrolled by Skydance CEOs David Ellison and Jerry Bruckheimer along with the male lead, Tom Cruise. 

The project will see “drone technology and fifth generation fighters along with exploring the end of the era of dogfighting.”

Top Gun will release on July 12, 2019 right after the release of Sony Entertainment’s Spider-Man: Homecoming

The original was directed by the late Tony Scott and raked in close $350 million worldwide. The movie also starred Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Tom Skeritt, and Anthony Edward in pivotal roles. 

Meanwhile, the report further states that Van Kilmer is also interested in reprising his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazanski in the sequel.
