Director Balaji Mohan has started work on the sequel to Maari, which had Dhanush and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead. Maari 2 is bankrolled by Dhanush’s production house and the film’s puja was held on Monday at Dhanush’s office.
Talking about Maari 2, Balaji Mohan, says, “Maari’s character in the sequel will be an extension of the gangster character that he played in the first part. Though the character is same, Maari 2 will have a different plot with new set of actors, except Dhanush. So far, only Dhanush has been finalised. I’m not too sure if we are going to retain the same team as the original. We are yet to take a call on that.”

Balaji adds, “We will start shooting for the sequel from September. Pre-production work has started.”
Balaji recently directed a web series, As I’m Suffering from Kadhal, which was well received. About directing more such web series, he says, “After this film, I will definitely get back to directing another web series.”
Maari, which was released in July 2015, opened to a mixed response. However, the film’s music album composed by Anirudh was instant hit.
