The strike by FEFSI workers over inadequate wages has now been called off by President RK Selvamani. Speaking at a quickly convened press meet, he said: “We are meeting the Labour Commission officials tomorrow. We hope that the issue will be solved. As things look positive, we are calling off the strike as we don’t want to inconvenience the producers.”
FEFSI members are expected to get back to work tomorrow.
RK Selvamani, President of the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), called for a round of negotiations with the Producers’ Council. The TFPC, however, was not ready to negotiate, and continued to shoot with non FEFSI workers. This prompted FEFSI to seek the help of the Labour Commission.
FEFSI now wants to renegotiate the “general conditions” pertaining to the daily wages of its members – recently revised by the TFPC.
