Sushant Singh Rajput Thinks His Engineering Skills Will Be Put To Good Use With ‘Chanda Mama Door Ke’

Sushant Singh Rajput, who has an engineering degree, is glad he’s finally getting to use those skills with his upcoming space film Chanda Mama Door Ke. Speaking to Mid-Day about his training session at NASA’s Space & Rocket Centre in Alabama, the actor believes he’s all prepared for a space odyssey in this film.

“I am finally getting the chance to put all my studies to practice in this film,” he says, revealing that his training included regimens such as flying a space shuttle simulator and a multi-axis trainer. He also experienced zero gravity as part of his training.

“The training sessions were surreal. But I realise, the training for this film is an ongoing process. Movies have, so far, given us a glamorous view of space, but our attempt will be to make it as authentic as possible,” he adds.

To get into character, the actor also admits purchasing multiple books and even a high-end telescope, along with a few more gadgets. “I have a dedicated room in my house where I prepare for this film. It’s my very own workstation which helps me sink into my character,” he adds.

Sushant also underwent training in a special space suit designed by John Palmer, a special effects supervisor who has been associated with Hollywood films like Apollo 13 (1995), Deep Impact (1998), Armageddon (1998) and The Martian (2015)

In Chanda Mama Door Ke, the actor plays an astronaut. Directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, the film has Madhavan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui essay pivotal roles in this project produced by Viki Rajani.
