While the making video of Shankar’ 2.o was released on Vinayakar Chathurthi, yet another making video of the film was released last night. This time, the video was about how the crew shot the film in 3D format.
Talking about 3D-making, Shankar said, “The film was shot in 3D for the sake of it, the script demanded 3D technology. A lot of Hollywood films were made in 2D and then were converted into 3D in the post-production but this film has been shot directly in a 3D camera. After a shot, when I see a scene in monitor, I feel like I’m right there where the story was happening. There are a lot of visual effects scenes and action sequences in the film, you can enjoy those scenes in 3D. More than a movie this film is an experience. So, only when you watch it in 3D it can be experienced.”
Rajinikanth sounded equally excited about the 3D technology. “Shankar wrote the script with 3D in mind. I saw a shot wearing a 3D glass and I was repeatedly watching and I don’t know how many times I watched. I should appreciate Shankar as it was mesmerising. I’m waiting to see audience’s reaction. This film is not less than any Hollywood 3D film,” he said.
“Working in 3D is harder than what I imagined as things need to be really perfect, ” said Bollywood actor and the film’s villain Akshay Kumar.

Cinematographer Nirav Shah emphasised on how 3D gets you right in the middle of the action. “Our intention is to invite the audience into the movie by presenting them a true sense of presence in all the scenes,” added Ray Hannisian, lead stereographer of the film.
The film has been made on a budget of around Rs 400 crores, where Rajinikanth reprises his role as Dr Vaseegaran from Endhiran (2010), and has Akshay Kumar make his Tamil debut. The film also stars Amy Jackson, with music by Oscar winner AR Rahman.
