Aranmanai Movie Review – Times of India

Recommended

Sundar C throws everything at us — comedy tracks, songs, flashbacks, a bit of skin show, a fight, sentiment and mystic mumbo jumbo, even though they never feel necessary. This is kitchen sink filmmaking but there is an assurance in how it is done. The film also feels somewhat overlong but the director manages to keep things moving that we just go with the flow. The visual effects are tacky and often excessive while the performances are functional — Hansika’s lip-sync isn’t right as usual, Andrea is blank both when acting scared or possessed, Sundar C often acts unperturbed by the happenings around him; even Santhanam’s wordplay is a bit predictable — but then, the film doesn’t take itself too seriously and so, we are able to overlook these niggles, and just about enjoy the ride.
