Abhay Jodhpurkar has lent his voice for the song, Oruthi Maelae in Jeeva. Composed by Imman, the melody also features El Fe Choir. “Oruthi Maelae can also be considered an A Capella since Imman sir has used minimal instrumentation. And it’s totally unplugged; with arrangements of just guitar and harmonica,” said Abhay, who loves the song so much that it is his current caller tune.
The young singer debuted with the popular song Moongil Thottam for the movie Kadal. He has collaborated with Imman previously for Adiye Yenna Raagam for Rummy and Odum Rayile for Oru Oorla Rendu Raja. “He is the sweetest composer I have ever worked with. Personally, I think Oruthi Maelae has come out so well because of the creative freedom that Imman sir gave me during the recording,” declared Abhay, adding that an artiste performs well if the composer offers a comfortable environment. “I tend to give my best to him because he is encouraging.”
Although Abhay has sung quite a few melodies, he doesn’t like being stereotyped. “I would prefer melody over other genres any day. But that doesn’t melody is my forte.” In Srikanth Deva’s composition, Abhay has crooned the song Tattoo from Bhoologam. “It is a proper folk-cum-kuthu song. I certainly loved singing that too,” he said.
On Vinayagar Chathurthi this year, Abhay launched his first single, Ganesh Songs (Three-in-one Ganpati Aarti), in association with Sony Music. “I am planning to do a lot of covers, and my official YouTube channel will be launched in a couple of weeks,” he added. His channel will feature covers from Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi and Hindu music.
