Soha Ali Khan is all set to produce a biopic on veteran Supreme Court lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani. The biopic will star her husband Kunal Khemu in the lead, and is co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala. Speaking to a news agency, Soha said:

“It’s a fascinating life story because Mr Jethmalani is now 94 years old. He has had a career of over 70 years, and look at the people who he has represented. They range from politicians to notorious criminals… The task is not the story to tell, but the parts we will have to leave out or what we don’t tell. And every bit is exciting.”

It appears to be a season of biopics on politicians. If 2017 was the year of biopics on gangsters, then 2018 is perhaps that of Indian politicians. Just yesterday it was announced that there would be a biopic titled Yugpurush Atal based on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The film will be directed by Mayank P Srivastava and the script is written by Basant Kumar and will be produced under banner of Spectrum Movies.

A few days ago, it was announced that Nawazuddin Siddiqui will play late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray in a biopic directed by Abhijit Panse and written by Rajya Sabha MP and Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut, who will also produce the film. The film is expected to release in early 2019.

On a similar note, Ram Gopal Varma announced this year that he will be making a biopic on the life of legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) titled Lakshmi’s NTR. He shared the first look of his film in September, writing that it’s a love story full of “hatred, jealousy, power mongering, backstabbing and above all unbelievable inter-relationship conflicts”.

There’s also a film based on Sanjaya Baru’s book The Accidental Prime Minister in the pipeline. The book (and the film) is based on former PM Manmohan Singh. The film, directed by Hansal Mehta, stars Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh and is scheduled to release sometime late in 2018.
