Gone are the days when movie events and audio launches featured just platitudes about the cast, crew and the film in general. Now, they have become platforms for the invitees to air their opinions and grievances. In the case of Seeman, who was at the launch of the movie Kadavul 2 yesterday, a fiery one-hour speech was what his audience had to listen to. Apart from elaborating on LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s ideals, Seeman, quoted Prabhakaran as saying “not everyone who spouts punch dialogues can become a leader”.
Before one can construe it as an indirect reference to Rajini, Seeman launched into direct attack. Questioning the premise of ‘aanmeega arasiyal [spiritual politics]’, Seeman said that one usually talks ‘aanmeegan [spirituality]’ when they are past their prime. “But having preached ‘silence’ and ‘peace’ all through their prime, how can one talk politics, when they are old? Everything is happening in the reverse here,” he declared to roaring applause.
Soon after the event, Seeman berated Rajinikanth on his silence on the Vairamuthu-Aandal controversy. In a byte to news channels, Seeman said: “Vairamuthu’s songs made you (Rajini) what you are with lines like ‘Ennai vaazha vaithathu Tamizh paal‘. He made you a hero. So when he has a problem, you need to stand with him. Vairamuthu considers Rajini his friend, but we now know Rajini doesn’t feel the same way.”

Filmmaker Bharathiraja, apart from slamming Vairamuthu’s critics, also spoke about Rajini’s politics. “How can you trade Tamizh for padhavi [post]? You let the fanatics grow by allowing them to do paal abhishekams for you. You made them dumb. It makes me suspect if you had political intentions all along. You are a good man, but your deeds must not hurt us. Who told you that we didn’t have good leadership? We are just being patient. We have crores of leaders,” he said.
Seeman and Bharathiraja have been Rajini’s most vocal detractors ever since the star announced his decision to enter politics.
Earlier, Vairamuthu, in a press meet, welcomed Rajinikanth’s decision to enter politics, elaborating on the challenges that lay ahead of the aspiring politician.
