Karan Johar has finalised the cast of his upcoming magnum opus, Shiddat with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. This will be the fourth time that Varun and Alia will be paired together and their previous films have also been Dharma Productions. The film will be directed by Abhishek Varman.
Previously titled Shuddhi, it was rumoured to be in the can for years, however, the story is reportedly new.
Shiddat, is said to be a period drama and apart from Dharma’s blue-eyed mentees, Sanjay Dutt and Mahima Chaudhary will join the cast. Sridevi, who passed away recently, was rumoured to have been in talks to star in the film. Interestingly enough, her daughter Jahnvi Kapoor will be launched by Dharma Productions in the Hindi remake of Sairat, titled Dhadak.

Varun has stellar releases lined up this year, including Sui Dhaaga, October and Rannbhoomi, while Alia has Raazi, Gully Boy and Brahmastra in the pipeline.
Varun and Alia had previously denied being approached for Shiddat, but credible sources have confirmed that the duo have signed on the dotted line. There were also rumours that Karan Johar shelved Shiddat after Sridevi passed away, but it seems like the Dharma head honcho wants to go ahead with his most ambitious project.
