Activists belonging to the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike group protested in front of a theatre screening Kaala earlier today.
A group of them targeted the Balaji theatre in Bangaluru and disrupted the screening of the film. Police were present to prevent any law and order issue. Representatives of the group met the theatre owner and asked him not to screen the film. Reports indicate that the group threatened violence if the film was screened. As a result, the screening was stopped.

According to a Times Now report, representatives of the group have met theatre owners in the city with the same message. Hence, the screening has been momentarily stopped.
Interestingly, Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy came out in support of the protestors recently and even said that it would be better if the makers chose not to release the film in the State. This seems to have emboldened the pro-Kannada activists.
Rajinikanth and the film’s director, Pa Ranjith, have expressed disappointment at the turn of events.
