Directed and written by Sharat Katariya of Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) fame, Varun plays the role of a tailor, while Anushka is an embroiderer.
“We consciously wanted our campaign to roll out on August 7, National Handloom Day. Our film Sui Dhaaga is a salute to the bold entrepreneurs and the self-reliant work-force of the country – artisans, craftsmen, weavers and the grassroots level contributors to the surging India’s indigenous arts and crafts industry. We have thus decided to launch it’s campaign on a day dedicated to the skilled entrepreneurs of our country,” producer Maneesh Sharma said through a press release.
As part of the promotions, Varun and Anushka will start touring the country and the trailer of the film will be unveiled soon. “Varun and Anushka will start touring the country from August 7. The trailer will come a week after,” said Sharma, adding that the logo is a fitting tribute to skilled entrepreneurs and craftsmen of the country.

The actors will tour cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Indore and Chandigarh to name a few, where they will be releasing new bits of content from the film.
According to a report in Firstpost, it took the team six months to design the logo in 15 different styles, including hand needlework of Kashida and Sozni from Kashmir, colourful Phulkari from Punjab, the intricate thread work of Rabari and Mochi Bharat from Gujarat, Phool Patti from Uttar Pradesh and Zardozi from Lucknow.
Sui Dhaaga is about finding love and respect through self-reliance. Its plot is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy and takes a leaf out of the Make In India campaign. Yash Raj Films’ entertainer is slated to hit screens on September 28.
Government initiatives seemed to be the current flavour of the season for Bollywood. The widely received, Akshay Kumar’s film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, was seen as an endorsement of the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
