Monster is a film aimed at young children, says Actor SJ Suryah. He plays the lead role in the film directed by Nelson Venkatesan, who debuted with Oru Naal Koothu.
“I have done slapstick before but in Monster, the effort taken is twice as much since this is children we are catering to. So we have to do twice as much and really double down hard to get the results we want. Monster is an unusual film but will be very well liked by everybody,” Suryah says.
Children have become a very discerning audience, says Suryah. “Exposure has changed everything about the way kids are. They think, eat and live differently than those of the previous generation. They have more access to world cinema and can really point out the differences between a well made film and a not so great one. So we have to take extra effort into making Monster palatable for them,” Suryah adds.
The actor is quick to point out that people from all age groups can enjoy the movie. “In that sense, it is a film for everybody.”
Nelson wrote the script based on an incident that happened at his home, says Suryah. “It’s quite funny really. Talking even one line about the story will give it all away. So there’s going to be a lot of suspense till the film’s release,” he says.

Nelson, for his part, is all praise for the lead actors – SJ Suryah and Priya Bhavanishankar. Through a recent press release, Nelson said that Suryah was a ‘wizard’ at acting and that Priya had tried her very best to do justice to her role. “SJ Suryah doesn’t need an analysis on his performance. He is a wizard with his own style, and his effortless performances have won all our hearts. He will be a perfect entertainer in Monster too, from the very first scene to the last. Priya Bhavani Shankar understood the depth of her character and was able to put more life into it. She has strived for the best in this movie. Karunakaran had appeared in a serious character in my previous film Oru Naal Koothu, but in Monster he will be tickling your funny bones.”
Potential Studios finances this film that has music composed by Justin Prabhakaran.
