Naga Chaitanya is likely to star in the remake of his father’s 1997 hit Ratchagan. The movie, directed by Praveen Gandhi, featured Sushmita Sen alongside Nagarjuna.
K.T.Kunjumon, the producer of movies like Gentleman and Kadhalan announced Ratchagan in January 1996 with a debut director. It eventually went on floors in 1997 and featured S.P. Balasubramanyam, Raghuvaran, Girish Karnad and Vadivelu in supporting roles. Music was composed by A.R.Rahman, and it was shot in different locations like Manali, Mumbai, Goa, Ooty, Rajasthan and Delhi.
During the time of its release in October 1997, Ratchagan was the costliest Indian movie, and went on to become a huge success. The film was dubbed into Telugu as Rakshakudu.
22 years after its release, talks are on regarding remaking the film with the same director. According to a report, the director confirmed this. “Yes, we are having thoughts of making a project related to Ratchagan but the talks are still very much in the initial stages of discussion only. It is surprising that you guys are already aware of this,” said Praveen Gandhi.
Another report says that the movie is being planned as a bilingual.
Meanwhile, Naga Chaitanya who had three releases last year – Mahanati/Nadigaiyar Thilakam, Saavyasachi and Shailaja Reddy Alludu, is currently awaiting the release of Majli on April 5. Majili is directed by Shiva Nirvana, who made his directorial debut with Ninnukori. Majli is Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya Akinneni’s fourth film together, and their first one post-marriage.
He also has Venky Mama directed by K.S.Ravindra. The movie sees him teaming up with his real-life uncle Venkatesh. Rakul Preet plays the female lead in the film. Venky Mama is produced jointly by Suresh Productions and People Media Factory. S.Thaman has been hired as the music composer for the movie.
