The first poster of Breaking News released yesterday, and it looks copied from the Indonesian film The Raid (2011). Breaking News is a fantasy drama featuring Jai in the role of a superhero, directed by Andrew Pandian. The film began shoot yesterday.
The first look of the film is very similar to the poster of The Raid. Directed by Gareth Evans, The Raid is an action thriller which follows Iko Uwais’s character, who, along with a troupe of soldiers, attempt to get to the top floor of a high rise building to capture a crime lord.
The movie depicts the obstacles the team encounters as they comb through each floor before reaching the top. The building played a pivotal role in the film, and it featured in the poster.
Breaking News, in the words of its director Andrew Pandian, is “A fantasy drama about how a common man turns superhero to transform India into a paradise.” One might guess from the poster that the film probably follows the superhero tradition, and has him rescue someone from a burning building.
With its graphics, the poster resembles a screen-grab from a video game. The director has worked as a VFX advisor on movies like Anniyan and Muthalvan. Breaking News will reportedly have close to ninety minutes of visual effects, and one might look out for these portions considering the director’s previous VFX projects.
The movie is financed by Norway based producer K.Thirukadal Udhayam. Johny Lal is the cinematographer on the project, and editing is by Antony. The film has Dev Gill, Rahul Dev, Mandira Bedi, Isha Koppikar and Radha Ravi in supporting roles. Bhanu Sree Reddy is making her Tamil debut as the female lead.
Breaking News was not the first movie to possibly be inspired by The Raid. The 2016 Bollywood film Bhaagi had its storyline borrowed from the Indonesian film.
