Sasikumar Signs Next With ‘Salim’ Director Nirmal Kumar

Actor-director Sasikumar has signed his next with director NV Nirmal Kumar of Salim fame. The film went on floors yesterday, and this is said to be Sasikumar’s first action adventure.

Sasikumar announced the film with pictures from the pooja function that happened on Wednesday.

A source close to the project told Times of India that the film will be based in a city with shooting schedules in Chennai, and a 25-day schedule later planned in Mumbai.

The movie is produced by PK Ram Mohan under the Kalpataru Pictures banner. Ganesh Chandhrra, who handled cinematography in Salim, is on board for this film. Anand Mani is the art director, Sakthi Saravanan is the stunt director. The team is yet to finalise the female lead and other cast members.

NV Nirmal Kumar debuted as a director in 2014 with the Vijay Antony-starrer Salim. He has since directed Sathuranga Vettai 2, with Arvind Swami and Trisha, which has been awaiting release for some time now. The original film was directed by H Vinoth, who wrote the script and story for the sequel.

Meanwhile, Sasikumar has been working on many films since director Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta in which he played Rajinikanth’s best friend Malik. He has Sumuthirakani’s Naadodigal 2, co-starring Anjali, and the film has a storyline similar to the first. The team has completed production and the film has been awaiting release since Deepavali last year.

Kennedy Club, starring a women’s Kabbadi team along with Sasikumar, Bharathiraja and others is almost complete. The director recently even hosted a real Kabbadi match at a ground in Villupuram, with the general public invited to act as spectators. A release date for the film is awaited.

Sasikumar’s other projects include director SR Prabhakaran’s Kombu Vatcha Singamda, and Gautham Vasudev Menon’s long-delayed Enna Noki Paayum Thotta in different stages of production.
