Malayalam Actor Roshan Mathews To Play The Lead In Anurag Kashyap’s Next

Actor Roshan Mathew will play the lead role in Anurag Kashyap’s next film, the shooting of which will begin in Mumbai tomorrow. The news was announced by filmmaker-actor Geetu Mohandas on social media.

“I’m so proud to announce that my actor and good friend, Roshan Mathew with his unbelievable performance in Moothon, has landed himself a beautiful project as the lead in none other than the maverick filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s latest. The shoot commences tomorrow in Bombay. I wish you the world Roshan. This is just the beginning. ♥️ “(sic), wrote Geetu.

Roshan plays a pivotal role in Geetu’s feature film, Moothon, which is co-written by Kashyap. Although the filmmaker hasn’t announced the details of the new film yet, he tweeted on Thursday morning, “New company, New film, New beginnings…”.

The 27-year-old Roshan, an alumni of Drama School Mumbai, spent close to eight years in the field of theatre before making his debut in Malayalam cinema through Adi Kapyare Koottamani (2015) in which he played a brief role as a college student. He rose to fame through Ganesh Raj’s Aanandam (2016), a romantic-comedy set in an engineering college, where he was one of the seven lead actors. Recently, he played the antagonist in Shanavas K Bavakkutty’s Thottappan. In Siddharth Siva’s upcoming film, Varthamanam, a political drama set in a Delhi college, he stars alongside Parvathy TK.

Last year, Phantom Films, the production company Anurag Kashyap had co-created with Vikramaditya Motwane, Madhu Mantena and Vikas Bahl, dissolved following a sexual harassment case against Bahl. His last directorial venture, Manmarziyaan, was co-produced by Phantom. This year, Kashyap is co-producing Saand Ki Ankh, a biopic drama starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Padnekar, and is also presenting Pannu’s Tamil horror-thriller Game Over, directed by Ashwin Saravanan, in Hindi.
