The director of the film, GM Durai Pandian, told Silverscreen that the song is set during New Year in a village in Tamil Nadu, and features a young hero and his lover. One of the songs from the album is complete and the remaining will be recorded in the next two days.

Durai Pandian has made short films and ads, and also worked on Malayalam feature films such as Girls (released in Tamil as Thiraikku Varadha Kathai), and assisted Malayalam director Thulasidas.

Mun Padhivu is his first Tamil feature film. He issued a press release in which he said that the film looks at infatuation among the youth and addresses gender issues. “When I narrated the story to Ilaiayaaraj sir, he liked it and asked me to direct the film just as I had narrated, without any changes. After he agreed to compose music for the film, we all felt confident,” he said.

Tamil Azhagan, son of actor-director Gowthaman, plays an important role. Tamil is making his acting debut with Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie-starrer Maamanithan, directed by Seenu Ramasamy.
