Happy birthday Sam CS! Our song of the day is ‘Karuppu Vellai’ from Vikram Vedha featuring Sam CS’s BGM and songs. He composed music for the film even before the shooting began, with only the script in hand. Directors Pushkar-Gayathri shot some scenes for his music, and it is said that Vijay Sethupathi and Madhavan would often listen to the music to get into their character on sets.
‘Karuppu Vellai’, with heavy rock and guitar portions, and set to solid vocals by Shivam and Sam CS, released to announce the film as a thriller exploring the line between good and bad. The composer brought in a live orchestra to record the songs. At Sethupathi’s insistence, director Vignesh Shivan was hired to write the lyrics. The album was a chartbuster, bringing recognition to the composer, who then went on to work in films such as Adanga Maru, 100 and Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum.
