On Monday, the IIFFT (International Indian Film Festival Toronto) board announced the list of films that would be premiering at the 8th edition of their annual festival to be held virtually from Aug 9-15, 2020. The list comprised six films – an Indo-American short Padmavyuha and the recent popular Indian docu-film Batch of 2020 – Beyond Degrees & Certificates along with Karthi starrer Kaithi (Tamil), Nani starrer Jersey (Telugu), Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30 (Hindi) and Fahad Faasil starrer Trance (Malayalam).

The 2021 edition of the Sundance Film Festival will move beyond its traditional venue, Park City in Utah, to cities across the United States via online screenings, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Sundance Institute, as per a Variety report, announced on Wednesday that they would collaborate with drive-in theatres and independent cinemas across the country to make this available to the public.

Radhika Apte’s A Call To Spy, a historical drama about three women who work as spies during World War II, will release on Amazon Prime Video in India on December 11. The film (starring Radhika Apte, Stana Katic and Sarah Megan Thomas) released in theatres in October in the UK and US. Apte has said she is looking forward to a positive response from Indian fans.

Oscars: A Look at India’s Official Entries Over the Past Decade

Since 1957, Hindi films have dominated the entries with 32 entries so far, followed by eight in Tamil, three each in Malayalam and Marathi, two in Bengali and one each in Telugu, Gujarati, Urdu, and Assamese.  However, in the last 10 years, six regional films, barring ones in Hindi, have been sent as India’s official entries at the Academy Awards.
