Actor Arya Summoned by Chennai Police after Woman Files Cheating Complaint

Arya, the Tamil actor, appeared before the cybercrime branch of Chennai city police on Tuesday, following summons over a complaint lodged by a woman from Germany alleging that the actor had cheated her of Rs 70 lakh by promising to marry her, reported The Times of India.

The online complaint was filed by Vidja, a Sri Lankan woman from Germany, who also submitted screenshots of her conversations with the actor on WhatsApp, the report added. In addition, she claimed she would obtain a ban on the release of Arya’s films.

Vidja had filed the complaint through a lawyer based out in Germany. However, the judge who heard the case ordered the city police to collect additional information on the case and adjourned the case to August 17.

Following this, Chennai police summoned the actor and around 7 pm on Tuesday, Arya appeared before cybercrime wing inspector Geetha at the commissioner’s office. He was interrogated for three hours.

Vidja alleged that the actor received Rs 70.40 lakh from her, citing financial struggle due to the Covid-19 induced lockdown, DT Next reported. The report also quotes a senior official stating that no case has been registered on Arya as of now.

The actor has not commented on the issue publicly.
