Vinod Dua, who was hospitalised with Covid-19 earlier this year, lost his wife, radiologist Chinna Dua, in June. Dua and his wife were in a hospital in Gurgaon when the second Covid-19 wave was at its peak.

On Monday, his daughter took to Instagram and announced that the 67-year-old journalist had been admitted to a hospital and was in bad shape. “My Papaji is beyond critical in the ICU. His health had been deteriorating rapidly since April. He is also unable to come to terms with losing the light of his life,” the actor-comedian wrote.

After the news of his ill health became public, many people had begun writing of the veteran journalist’s demise on social media. Refuting these rumours, Mallika Dua further wrote, “Whatever be the outcome, let him have his dignity.” Asking people to not believe or spread misinformation, she added, “I will issue all official news and updates on him. Not Twitter.”

Later, on Tuesday, she again took to Instagram and wrote, “He was moved to the Apollo Hospital ICU last night where he can be cared for better. He remains extremely critical and fragile.”

“He has been a fighter his entire life. Uncompromising and relentless. His family is the same when it comes to him. Mama would not have given up on him or watch him give up on himself. She will guide us to do what’s best for him. My sister and I are okay. We were raised by the strongest,” added Dua.

She also said that she would share the latest update on her father’s status once she spoke to the doctors.
