Rajinikanth, the Tamil actor, was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai on Thursday evening. Speaking to Silverscreen India, the actor’s publicist Riaz K Ahmed clarified that he has only been admitted for a routine check-up.
He said, “Rajinikanth has been admitted for a routine health check-up. He will be discharged today.” The publicist added that the time of his discharge has not yet been confirmed by the doctors.
News18 has, however, reported that the actor will continue at the hospital for another four days.
Rajinikanth was brought to the hospital by his wife, Latha Rajinikanth, and brother-in-law, Ravichandran, at around 5 pm on Thursday, as per the Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai. Soon after, his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth joined them at the hospital.
Addressing the press, dramatist and Rajinikanth’s relative, Y Gee Mahendran, who visited the actor at the hospital, announced that Rajinikanth was doing well. “He is taking rest at the hospital. I am not sure of the treatment he is getting right now. But, he will be discharged by the time Annaatthe hits the screens,” he said.
Speaking to Puthiya Thalaimurai on Thursday night, Latha Rajinikanth too had said that the actor was doing well and had only been admitted for a full-body check-up.
Kauvery Hospital is yet to issue an official medical bulletin regarding Rajinikanth’s health.
DTNext reports that the actor had complained of a headache before he was hospitalised. The report adds that it was the result of a burst blood vessel, which was revealed in an MRI scan. Rajinikanth is said to have been diagnosed with an infarction, a condition caused by the obstruction of the blood supply to an organ or region of tissue.
Earlier this week, Rajinikanth was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in the field of cinema, at the 67th National Film Awards. He had attended the event in Delhi along with his family.
The actor is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming Tamil film directed by Siva, Annaatthe, which is slated to hit theatres on November 4. Rajinikanth had also watched a special screening of the film on Thursday morning along with his family.
