Her husband Garry Bhinder, who succumbed to cancer in 2008, had been an assistant director on Ekta Kapoor’s popular television daily soap Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He later directed several famous Hindi television serials including Kis Desh Mein Hain Mera Dil, Kasturi, Kya Dill Mein Hain, K Street Pali Hill, Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hain, and Kahani Terrii Merrii.

Mumbai’s Versova police arrested Bhinder on Monday based on a complaint filed by producer and businessman Rajesh Jaisinghani and Hindi television actor Hiten Tejwani in January.

The case dates back to June 2019 when Bhinder approached both Tejwani and Jaisinghani with a proposal to develop a web series for a streaming platform. A contract was signed for the same and Jaisinghani transferred an amount of Rs 37 lakh to a joint account that was set up for the venture.

Soon after, both Jaisinghani and Tejwani began receiving several complaints that the crew members of the project were not being paid.

“On November 9, 2019, Roshan informed us that the streaming platform had cancelled the contract. On November 15, 2019, the three of us met in Juhu, where I asked Roshan to return the Rs 37 lakh that I had invested. She refused and told me to do my worst,” Jaisinghani told Hindustan Times.

Further, Jainsinghai mentioned that he also found that Bhinder had diverted some money to her own account from the Rs 37 lakhs.

On January 27, this year, Jainsinghani approached the Versova police and an FIR was registered.

Bhinder approached the Bombay High Court seeking anticipatory bail, which was denied in October. The court had referred to the diversion of funds and non-payment of wages to the crew members in its order and observed that the amount entrusted to Bhinder appears to have been misappropriated.
