The veteran actor has been admitted to the hospital ever since he tested positive for Covid-19 on October 6.

On October 9, the 85-year old actor was moved to the ITU and put on oxygen support after his health condition deteriorated. On October 11, Chatterjee was treated twice with plasma therapy and on October 28, he was put on dialysis due to “mild physiological alterations.”

“Our team of intervention radiologists, vascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, and all others decided to have a look into whether or not there has been any ongoing bleeding. They will try to completely evacuate the blood that has accumulated, and stop the bleeding itself,” Kar said.

“The team of doctors had to do a CT- angiography to find out his exact internal bleeding location,” the doctor said.

On Sunday, Kar said that “actor did not have to be put on dialysis”.

At present, the actor is stable with his cardiovascular conditions, blood pressure, and heart rate at normal levels. However, the veteran actor is still on ventilation and oxygen support with no improvement in his consciousness since Sunday.

“Right now our major concern is to take complete control of the bleeding which is almost contained now but we do not want to take any chances and evacuate the accumulated blood so that there are no secondary infections in that part,” added Kar.

“After so many days with these many complications, problems, comorbidities and non-improvement of the neurological condition with an age of 85, it is always very difficult for the critical care team as well as the team of doctors to get the best outcome of the situation. But we are still doing our best for the legendary actor. We are doing everything that can be done for him to make him survive,” Kar concluded.

The Padma Bhushan awardee is renowned for his several successful collaborations with the Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray. The duo has worked together in 14 films, including the Apu Trilogy and Feluda series. The duo was considered to be of the same stature as Scorsese-Dicaprio, and Scorsese-DeNiro.
