The local body elections were held across the state on October 6 and 9, for a total of 27,003 posts. The poll results were announced on Tuesday.

The 59 victorious contestants from Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam hail from nine different districts. They have won seats in the districts of Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli. While 13 candidates clinched victory unopposed, the other 46 members won by a huge margin.

Interestingly, this comes at the time when Vijay has strictly kept away from politics. The actor recently even took legal steps to ensure that the political body his father SA Chandrasekhar had formed in his name – Vijay Makkal Iyakkam – was dissolved.

In September, Vijay filed a civil suit against 11 people, including his father Chandrasekhar and mother Shoba Chandrasekhar, seeking to restrain them from holding any (political) meetings or activities in his name. His lawsuit came after the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam had announced that its members would be contesting in the local body polls in October in certain districts of Tamil Nadu.

Subsequently, Chandrasekhar submitted an affidavit to the Chennai City Civil Court stating that a resolution to dissolve the organisation with “immediate effect” was taken at the last general body meeting.

It is to be noted that the now-dissolved Vijay Makkal Iyakkam is not the same as the Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, whose members have won in the polls. The actor had reportedly extended his support for the latter.

According to TNM, Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam members had confirmed that the actor himself had permitted them to contest in the elections and campaign using his photographs and name.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Vijay will next be seen in his 65th film Beast, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. He will also be foraying into the Telugu industry with a film helmed by director Vamshi Paidipally.
