After Piers Morgan, the ITV anchor, announced that he was quitting the show Good Morning Britain, several TV personalities and celebrities called him out for his comments on Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle’s mental health.
Jameela Jamil, The Good Place actor, took to social media to talk about her own experience with Morgan. She stated that his verbal abuse almost drove her to suicide.
“I almost killed myself a year ago because of Piers Morgan’s campaign of lies and hatred against me last February. I’m glad I’m still alive today for many reasons,” Jamil wrote on Twitter.
TW: suicide
I almost killed myself a year ago because of Piers Morgan’s relentless campaign of lies and hatred against me last February. I’m glad I’m still alive today for many reasons. But watching him leave GMB today is right up there and has me feeling: pic.twitter.com/reygXIMhP9

Comedian and actor Chelsea Handler posted a video from 2014 where she had criticised him for being a bad interviewer. According to a report by Independent, Handler called out Morgan for checking his phone during the show’s commercial break and said: “I want viewers to know — I mean, they must know because they’re probably following you on Twitter — I mean, you can’t even pay attention for 60 seconds. You’re a terrible interviewer.”

Morgan has received immense criticism following his remarks on Markle. In an exclusive tell all interview with American talk show host Oprah Winfrey on March 7, Markle had revealed that she had battled suicidal thoughts during her time as an active member of the British royal family. She and her husband Prince Harry stepped down from their royal duties in January 2020.
Following the interview, Morgan had said on Good Morning Britain: “I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report and that fact that she fired up this onslaught against our royal family, I think is contemptible.”
After he quit, people began to question Morgan’s racist attitude and constant criticisms of Markle.
According to Variety, singer Beyonce posted a picture supporting Markle on her website. She wrote: “Thank you Meghan for your courage and leadership. We are all strengthened and inspired by you.”
