The new three-tier model will see the introduction of a mobile-only subscription plan, a device-focused subscription model similar to Netflix’s mobile plan.

Starting September 1, subscribers will have to choose from three options, namely Mobile for ₹499 per year (a single device, mobile-only plan), Super for ₹899 per year (access to two devices across mobile, web, and living room devices) and Premium for ₹1499 per year (access to four devices).

“For the very first time, all of our subscribers will have access to our Disney+ Hollywood content as well. We don’t want our subscribers to be restricted by what plans they are choosing,” Sunil Rayan, President and Head of the Walt Disney-owned streaming platform, said during a press conference on Tuesday.

Currently, Disney+ Hotstar offers two packages: the VIP and the Premium packages, priced at ₹399 per year and ₹1,400 per year, respectively. The Premium model exclusively offers Disney+ Originals such as Marvel and Pixar titles, and new shows by HBO, Fox, and Showtime.

The number of shared screens will be increased from two to four under the new Premium package. The streaming quality will change as well, with the Super plan offering only High Definition and the Premium plan offering 4K resolution.

The streaming giant also announced that it will continue to provide live streams of upcoming cricket tournaments such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, both scheduled to take place over the next six months.

The company is also expanding its regional language slate. “We’re thrilled to expand our offerings on Disney+ Hotstar by adding an incredible array of blockbuster movies and multilingual original series in Telugu and Tamil,” said Gaurav Banerjee, President & Head, Hindi and English Entertainment, Star India, in a statement.
