The Republic Day weekend had quite a few releases that made a significant impact at the box office. There was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat that is on its way to the Rs 100-crore club, among the Tamil releases Bhaagamathie has been garnering good response while Aadhi and Street Lights in Malayalam cinema have been creating a buzz.
Padmaavat (Hindi)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic drama Padmaavat, which was scheduled to release on December 1, officially released on January 25, with premiere shows on January 24. Bhansali’s film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh is a cinematic adaptation of the epic poem Padmavat written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540 CE, which most historians have called a work of fiction.
The film has reportedly earned Rs 56 crores within three days, making Rs 5 crores on Wednesday, Rs 19 crores on Thursday, and Rs 32 crores on Friday.

Internationally, the film has been doing well too. In New Zealand, the film made Rs 76.10 lakhs on its first two days. In Australia, the film made Rs 4.65 crores on its first two days, while UK made Rs 2.34 crores. The film in Germany, too, has managed to make an impact, earning Rs 52.45 lakhs on its first day.

Bhaagamathie (Telugu/Tamil/Malayalam)
The trilingual thriller is directed by G Ashok and has Anushka Shetty in a powerful role as an IAS officer named Chanchala. The film also features Unni Mukundan, Aadhi Pinisetty, and Jayaram as part of the cast.

The film’s Telugu version managed to go beyond Rs 12 crores on Friday. According to a Bollywood Life report, the film earned Rs 10 crores on its second day.
In the US box office, the film has made $156, 538 (approximately Rs 99.54 lakhs).

Nimir (Tamil)
Director Priyadarshan’s Nimir is the remake of the Malayalam film Maheshinte Prathikaram with Udhayanidhi in the lead. Samuthirakani has written the dialogues for the film. He plays the villain too. Veteran actor and filmmaker J Mahendran plays Udhayanidhi’s father in the film.
While the official numbers are not out yet, Pinkvilla reports that the film opened to Rs 0.71 crores in Chennai, and earned Rs 0.69 crores from the other parts of Tamil Nadu. However, some reports state that the film earned Rs 44 lakhs on its first two days in Chennai.

The film has got a mixed response, with many pointing it out that it lacks the freshness of the original film.

Mannar Vagaiyara (Tamil)
Mannar Vagaiyara is an action comedy written and directed by Boopathy Pandian, best known for directing the Dhanush-starrer Devathayai Kanden. The film is produced by actor Vemal, who also stars in the lead role alongside Anandi. Prabhu, Chandini Tamilarasan and Karthik Kumar and others appear in supporting roles.
According to cinema tracker Ramesh Bala, the film made Rs 1.25 crores in two days Tamil Nadu, becoming Vemal’s biggest ever opening.

Actor Karthik Kumar, who has a supporting role in the film, recently tweeted that he would never act in another commercial film again considering he is yet to receive his payment for his work.
