In Theatres This Friday: Vaalu Versus Vasu

Finally.

After a number of lawsuits, memes, quite a few feverish assertions that the movie would indeed release that week, only to be indefinitely postponed again …Vaalu is all set to release tomorrow. But not before the blame (for delay in release) was apportioned to rest of the world.

And father T Rajender’s logical reasoning: “Vaalu nu peru vecha neendukitte thaan pogum!”

Director Vijay Chander took well over three years to wrap up the film, and for STR fans, it was a long wait. The star was last seen onscreen in 2012, and has seemingly spent the last three years doing a variety of films that never saw the light of the day.

All that aside, Vaalu is said to be full-on commercial fare starring current favourite Hansika Motwani and yes, Santhanam. Set in North Madras, the film has everything an STR film usually has – a smart aleck hero, an ‘out of reach’ heroine and a wise cracking friend. Also, SS Thaman’s songs.

Director M Rajesh and Arya – after their commercially successful Boss Engira Bhaskaran – helm the other movie releasing this Friday. Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga is said to be along the lines of their previous movie together: a “comedy caper” and a “light-hearted entertainer”.

Santhanam is Vasu. Arya is Saravanan.

And Tamannaah… is a “churidhar potta tubelight“.

D Imman scores.
