Last week was vera maari. Balaji Mohan’s third film with Dhanush in the lead, set to Anirudh’s buoyant music hit the screens and it was a truly local experience. Loud shirts, dozens of gold chains – the Maari look was copied by hordes of (screaming) Dhanush fans who rushed to the theatres to catch sight of their idol.

Baahubali’s jubilant team celebrated the film’s success with a lot of cake. And, quite a few success parties. While we were invited to the latter, the former was sadly a stars-only affair.
The Tamil film industry came to a standstill at MS Viswanathan’s passing last week. Glowing tributes were made to the mellisai mannar, who died at the age of 87. Cinematographer Natty Natraj fondly reminisced about his favourite MSV songs; and we couldn’t help but do the same too.
